Elisabeth Wulff-Werthners Arbeit reicht von künstlerischen und musikalischen Auftritten mit ihrem Alter Ego Cizzy über dramaturgische und kuratorische Tätigkeiten. Außerdem arbeitet sie freischaffend als Dramaturgin, Produktionsleiterin und Projektmanagerin von Musik-und Tanztheaterproduktionen, zeitgenössischer Oper und spartenübergreifenden Projekten. Ihre breite musikalische Ausbildung, die klassische und experimentelle Musik, Improvisation und Performance genauso umfasst wie Volksmusik, spiegelt sich auch im Spektrum ihrer kuratorischen Arbeiten wider: in Happenings, Bällen, Performanceabenden, Theater, szenischen Konzerten, Trash und Straßenperformances. Auch ihre vielfältigen Tätigkeitsfelder in der Kulturarbeit fließen darin ein.

Auch ästhetisch sticht ein Übereinanderschichten und Überlappen von unterschiedlichen Sparten und Genres hervor. Das Ziel ist die Irritation des Publikums durch ungewohnte Klangwelten, durch die Auflösung von klassischen Bühnensituationen, durch einen Clash der Kulturen. Die Themen sind ortsspezifisch, exzentrisch, schillernd.

Mit 14 Jahren begann sie an der Kunstuniversität Graz in der Klasse von Herbert Weissberg ihr Studium des Konzertfachs Querflöte. Nach dem Grundstudium fokussierte sie sich in ihrer Arbeit auf improvisierte, zeitgenössische und experimentelle Musik und Performancekunst. Ihren Master of Music erwarb sie an der Musikhögskolan Malmö in Schweden. Außerdem studierte sie in Wien und Dresden Instrumentalpädagogik.

Von 2007 bis 2012 arbeitete Elisabeth Wulff-Werthner als freie Regie- und Produktionsassistentin und Produktionsleiterin in Musiktheaterinszenierungen, zeitgenössischen Opern und Tanztheaterproduktionen. Sie war – unter anderem -für Helmut Oehring, Helena Mendoza-Lopez, Das Himmelfahrt Commando, The Forsythe Company, Constanza Makras und Annette Jahns tätig.

Von 2011 bis 2019 war Elisabeth Wulff-Werthner gemeinsam mit Barbara Lubich und Nikolaus Woernle im Vorstand des Zentralwerk e.V. in Dresden. Neben der Geschäftsführung war sie zusammen mit Barbara Lubich für die künstlerische Leitung verantwortlich, entwickelte aber auch eigene Projekte und unterschiedlichste Formate.

Mit dem Zentralwerk e.V. gewann sie 2013 den Förderpreis des Kunstpreises der Landeshauptstadt Dresden und 2019 den Arras Preis der Hannah und Johannes Arras Stiftung.

2013 hat Elisabeth Wulff-Werther die „Zentralwerk Kultur- und Wohngenossenschaft Dresden eG“ mitgegründet.

Ihre Lehrtätigkeit umfasst Einzel- und Gruppenunterricht für Querflöte, die Vermittlung experimenteller Musik für Kinder und die Leitung von Performance-Workshops. Im Schuljahr 2014/2015 bildete sie außerdem im Spielmannszug Oberlichtenau die Querflöten aus.

In ihrer künstlerischen Arbeit tritt Elisabeth Wulff-Werthner seit 2008 unter dem Alter Ego Cizzy auf. Für ihre Performances oder szenischen Konzerten verwendet sie verschiedene Querflöten, Elektronik, ihre Stimme und den Körper als Ausdrucksmittel. Als eines der Gründungsmitglieder arbeitete Elisabeth Wulff-Werther einige Jahre mit dem Performancekollektiv GoGoTrash in Berlin sowie mit der Musikerin und Künstlerin Fake Mistress/Olivia Pils oder dem Performancekünstler Ernest Truely. Seit sie ihren Lebensmittelpunkt 2008 nach Dresden verlegt hat, arbeitete sie regelmäßig mit der Dokumentarfilmemacherin Barbara Lubich und dem Musiker Nikolaus Woernle zusammen. Konzertante Projekte realisierte sie in den letzten Jahren mit dem Musiker Winterberg in Dresden.

2008 war Elisabeth Wulff-Werthner Stipendiatin von Hellerau – Europäisches Zentrum der Künste unter der Leitung von Manos Tsangaris und 2010 Artist in Residence in der Polymer Cultur Factory in Tallinn, Estland.

Elisabeth Wulff-Werthner

is an Austrian flutist and performance artist.

Elisabeth Wulff-Werthner’s work ranges from artistic and musical performances with her alter ego Cizzy to dramaturgical and curatorial activities. She also works as a freelance dramaturge, production manager and project manager for music and dance theatre productions, contemporary opera and interdisciplinary projects. Her broad musical training, which includes classical and experimental music, improvisation and performance as well as folk music, is also reflected in the spectrum of her curatorial work: in happenings, balls, performance evenings, theatre, scenic concerts, trash and street performances. Her diverse fields of activity in cultural work also flow into it.

Aesthetically, too, a layering and overlapping of different genres stands out. The aim is to irritate the audience through unfamiliar sound worlds, through the dissolution of classical stage situations, through a clash of cultures. The themes are site-specific, eccentric, dazzling.

At the age of 14, she began her studies in concert flute at the Graz University of the Arts in the class of Herbert Weissberg. After her basic studies, she focused her work on improvised, contemporary and experimental music and performance art. She earned her Master of Music degree at the Musikhögskolan Malmö in Sweden. She also studied instrumental pedagogy in Vienna and Dresden.

From 2007 to 2012 Elisabeth Wulff-Werthner worked as a freelance assistant director and production manager in musical theatre productions, contemporary operas and dance theatre productions. She has worked – among others – for Helmut Oehring, Helena Mendoza-Lopez, Das Himmelfahrt Commando, The Forsythe Company, Constanza Makras and Annette Jahns.

From 2011 to 2019, Elisabeth Wulff-Werthner was on the board of Zentralwerk e.V. in Dresden, together with Barbara Lubich and Nikolaus Woernle. In addition to the management, she was responsible for the artistic direction together with Barbara Lubich, but also developed her own projects and a wide variety of formats.

With Zentralwerk e.V., she won the sponsorship award of the Art Prize of the State Capital Dresden in 2013 and the Arras Prize of the Hannah and Johannes Arras Foundation in 2019.

In 2013, Elisabeth Wulff-Werther co-founded the „Zentralwerk Kultur- und Wohngenossenschaft Dresden eG“.

Her teaching activities include individual and group flute lessons, teaching experimental music for children and leading performance workshops. In the 2014/2015 school year, she also trained the flutes in the Oberlichtenau marching band.

In her artistic work, Elisabeth Wulff-Werthner has been performing under the alter ego Cizzy since 2008. For her performances or scenic concerts, she uses various flutes, electronics, her voice and her body as means of expression. As one of the founding members, Elisabeth Wulff-Werther worked for several years with the performance collective GoGoTrash in Berlin as well as with the musician and artist Fake Mistress/Olivia Pils or the performance artist Ernest Truely. Since moving to Dresden in 2008, she has worked regularly with documentary filmmaker Barbara Lubich and musician Nikolaus Woernle. In recent years she has realised concert projects with the musician Winterberg in Dresden.

In 2008, Elisabeth Wulff-Werthner was a scholarship holder at Hellerau – European Centre for the Arts under the direction of Manos Tsangaris and in 2010 she was artist in residence at the Polymer Cultur Factory in Tallinn, Estonia.
